# Upgrade VAST CSI Driver

## Steps to Upgrade VAST CSI Driver

Choose your upgrade path:

- To upgrade from 2.6.3 or later to 2.7.x:
  - Follow the [procedure](/develop/docs/upgrade-vast-csi-driver-2-7#upgrade-helmbased-deployment-of-vast-csi-driver) for upgrading a Helm-based deployment.
- To upgrade from 2.3.x, 2.4.x, 2.5.x, 2.6.1, 2.6.2 to 2.7.x:
  1. Delete all storage classes created via Helm in versions prior to 2.6.3 and recreate them via Helm so that the driver applies the `secretName` and `secretNamespace` settings to them (introduced in 2.6.3).
  2. Follow the [procedure](/develop/docs/upgrade-vast-csi-driver-2-7#upgrade-helmbased-deployment-of-vast-csi-driver) for upgrading a Helm-based deployment.

Containers referencing VAST CSI Driver will run with the new version of VAST CSI Driver the next time they are created.

## Upgrade Helm-Based Deployment of VAST CSI Driver

Use the following procedure if both old and new release of VAST CSI Driver are deployed using a Helm chart.

1. Refresh Helm repository information to see which VAST CSI Driver versions are available for deployment:

```
helm repo update
```
2. Update the VAST CSI Driver's [Helm chart configuration file](/develop/docs/deploy-vast-csi-driver-2-7#create-helm-chart-configuration-file-for-vast-csi-driver) (`values.yaml`) to specify the target release of VAST CSI Driver:

```
image:
  csiVastPlugin:
    repository: <repo>
    tag: <new release>
    imagePullPolicy: IfNotPresent
```

For example:

```
image:
  csiVastPlugin:
    repository: vastdataorg/csi
    tag: v2.7.0
    imagePullPolicy: IfNotPresent
```
  - `&lt;repo&gt;` is the name of the VAST CSI Driver [Helm repository](/develop/docs/deploy-vast-csi-driver-2-7#add-helm-repository-for-vast-csi-driver).
  - `&lt;new release&gt;` is the VAST CSI Driver release to be upgraded to.
3. Run Helm upgrade:

```
helm upgrade <old release> <repo>/vastcsi -f <filename>.yaml
```

Where:

For example:

```
helm upgrade csi-driver vastcsi/vastcsi -f values.yaml
```
  - `&lt;old release&gt;` is the VAST CSI Driver release to be upgraded from.
  - `&lt;repo&gt;` is the name of the VAST CSI Driver [Helm repository](/develop/docs/deploy-vast-csi-driver-2-7#add-helm-repository-for-vast-csi-driver).
  - `vastcsi` is the name of the VAST CSI Driver Helm chart.
  - `&lt;filename&gt;.yaml` is the [Helm chart configuration file](/develop/docs/deploy-vast-csi-driver-2-7#create-helm-chart-configuration-file-for-vast-csi-driver).
4. Verify the status of the new VAST CSI Driver chart release:

```
helm ls
```
