# Setting Up the VAST Database Environment

To be able to run queries against one or more VAST databases using a third-party query engine, complete the following steps:

1. Verify that the [prerequisites](/docs-5-3/docs/prerequisites-for-using-query-engines-for-the-vast-database-trino-spark) are met.
2. [Configure](/docs-5-3/docs/configuring-the-vast-cluster-for-database-access) VAST Cluster for interaction with a third-party query engine.
3. [Install and configure](/docs-5-3/docs/installing-and-configuring-the-vast-connector-for-trino) the VAST connector for the third-party query engine.
4. [Verify](/docs-5-3/docs/verifying-the-trino-environment) that the environment is operational.
5. [Fill in](/docs-5-3/docs/importing-data-to-vast-database) one or more VAST databases with data.
6. Verify that the query engine can [run queries](/docs-5-3/docs/verifying-the-spark-environment) against the VAST database(s).
