Best practices

This section will recommend designs and starting values for topics, producers and consumers: what to choose for a given workload, and how to size for it. Recommendations are a starting point, based on benchmarks and deployments. Always measure with your own data before you rely on them.

What this section will contain

  • Partition count and throughput sizing: how many partitions and virtual IPs to plan for a target produce and consume rate.
  • Producer and consumer settings by workload: batching, acknowledgement and fetch settings for high-throughput and low-latency streams.
  • Retention and topic-table query patterns: how long to keep events, and how to query topic tables efficiently.
  • Moving from Apache Kafka: planning a migration of producers, consumers and Kafka tools.

Each page will say which VAST Cluster version and test setup its recommendations come from.

Where to find how it works

The rest of the VAST Event Broker docs explain how each feature works, what each setting does and how to measure the result: manage topics, producing, consuming, querying topics, limits. Best-practices pages link to those pages rather than repeat them.
